(Watch) Nathan Lyon completes 500 wickets in Test Cricket, becomes 8th in history and 3rd Australian.

Nathan Lyon has secured his place in cricket history by becoming the eighth bowler and the third Australian to achieve the remarkable milestone of 500 Test wickets. The memorable moment unfolded during the fourth day of the opening Test against Pakistan at Perth’s Optus Stadium, where Lyon dismissed Faheem Ashraf.

After a brief pause in Lyon’s journey to 500 wickets due to a calf injury following the Ashes series, he showcased his exceptional skills at the Optus Stadium. Lyon reached the historic 500-wicket mark by taking the wickets of Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, and Aamer Jamal, pushing his tally to 499 wickets in Pakistan’s first innings.

As the Australian pace bowlers dominated Pakistan’s second innings, Lyon found himself on the brink of the coveted milestone. It was in the seventh over that Lyon finally achieved the long-awaited feat by dismissing Ashraf through an LBW decision, which was confirmed by the Decision Review System (DRS).

This achievement elevates Lyon to a select group of cricketers, placing him in the esteemed company of legendary Australian bowlers Shane Warne (708) and Glenn McGrath (563) in the exclusive 500-wicket club. Among spinners, Lyon now shares this prestigious distinction with the likes of Muthiah Muralidaran and Anil Kumble.
