“A tough choice” – Batting Coach Vikram Rathour on making selection call between Sarfaraz Khan and Rajat Patidar for 2nd Test against England.
Vikram Rathour, the batting coach of Team India, has highlighted the challenging decision between Sarfaraz Khan and Rajat Patidar for the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam. He emphasized that the ultimate decision will rest with captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid, taking into account the prevailing conditions.
Rathour noted that Rajat Patidar was drafted into the squad for the initial two Tests following Virat Kohli’s withdrawal due to personal reasons. On the other hand, Sarfaraz Khan earned his inaugural national team call-up subsequent to KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja’s absence from the second Test due to injuries.
During the pre-match press conference before the second Test, scheduled to commence on Friday, February 2, Rathour deliberated on the Sarfaraz versus Patidar selection dilemma.
Rathour said “It will be a tough choice. What value they bring to the team, of course, is that they are superb players. We have seen how well they have done in domestic cricket in the last few years.”
“So on these kinds of wickets, I think they can really add a lot of value to the team. If we have to pick just one out of them, of course, it would be tough. But, that decision will be made by Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma. The playing XI will be finalized keeping in mind the conditions,” added India’s batting coach
