Aakash Chopra say ‘I am not 100% certain’ over Rohit Sharma’s test captaincy future.

India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, faced intense criticism following the team’s loss to Australia in the finals of the World Test Championship. Many cricketing legends, including Sachin Tendulkar, questioned Sharma’s decision-making, particularly his choice to drop Ravichandran Ashwin for the final. Additionally, his decision to bowl first after winning the toss turned out to be a costly mistake. Despite the backlash, reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intends to persist with Sharma as the Test skipper. However, former cricketer Aakash Chopra remains unconvinced about Sharma’s ability to continue in the role until the next WTC final.

Chopra commended Rohit Sharma for his impressive batting and leadership skills. Nevertheless, he highlighted that Sharma’s age may pose a challenge to his Test cricket career. While Chopra acknowledges that if Sharma genuinely desires to play Test cricket, he certainly can, he also expressed concerns that the demands of six Test series could potentially overwhelm him.

“Rohit is a good captain, there is no doubt about that. Rohit is a good Test batter, there is no doubt about that as well, but will the future remain like this only – I am not 100% certain because you have reached the final in the last two cycles but haven’t won even once, and age is not on his side, this is the reality,”.

Chopra further added “When you see the next two years, and another WTC cycle – 2025, Rohit Sharma could still be playing Test cricket if he really wants to play Test cricket. Six series is a lot of time,”.
