Ajit Agarkar likely to be Chief Selector as BCCI plan to increase annual salary for the role.

Former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar is reportedly poised to become the next Chief Selector for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as the organization plans to raise the annual salary for the chairman of the selection committee. Earlier, there were concerns that prominent figures in Indian cricket were reluctant to apply for the position due to low remuneration.

The post has been vacant since former Chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma resigned earlier this year following his involvement in a controversial sting operation. Sharma’s revelations about Indian players and their selection process, which were leaked in the media, led to his dismissal from the role.

In the interim, former Indian cricketer Shiv Sundar Das from the East Zone has been leading the selection committee. However, according to reports in the Indian Express, Agarkar is likely to take over as the next chairman after the BCCI offered him an increased annual salary. Currently, the annual salary for the chairman is set at one crore, while other members of the selection committee receive 90 lakhs per year.

The report suggests that Agarkar has applied for the position and is the frontrunner due to a lack of high-profile applicants. Agarkar recently ended his association with Delhi Capitals, where he served as the assistant coach, further clearing his path to becoming the next chief selector.

It’s worth noting that Agarkar had previously applied for the role in 2020 but was not selected.
