Akash Madhwal Stunning Performance Helps MI To Beat LSG And Reach Qualifier 2
In a thrilling IPL 2023 Eliminator match held at Chepauk on Wednesday, Mumbai Indians emerged victorious over Lucknow Super Giants by a convincing margin of 81 runs. Akash Madhwal’s exceptional bowling performance played a pivotal role in Mumbai’s triumph. Madhwal astounded the crowd by taking five wickets in just 3.3 overs, ultimately resulting in Lucknow being bowled out for a mere 101 runs in 16.3 overs during their pursuit of a challenging target of 183 runs. Mumbai Indians will now face off against the defending champions, Gujarat Titans, in Qualifier 2 at their home venue.
Aside from Madhwal’s clinical display, the poor running between the wickets haunted the Lucknow Super Giants during their arduous run chase. Marcus Stoinis, who contributed 40 runs off 27 balls, the highest score from the Lucknow team, along with Deepak Hooda and Krishnappa Gowtham, fell victim to unfortunate run-outs. These dismissals further compounded Lucknow’s woes and hampered their chances of mounting a successful chase.
Earlier in the match, Mumbai Indians posted a challenging total of 182/8 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to a late blitz by Nehal Wadhera. Wadhera’s quickfire knock of 23 runs off just 12 deliveries proved instrumental in propelling Mumbai’s score. Opting to bat first, Mumbai encountered early setbacks as Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan departed early. However, Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green came together and stabilized the innings by adding 66 runs for the third wicket. Unfortunately for Mumbai, Naveen-ul-Haq disrupted their progress by dismissing both batsmen in the 11th over. The Afghan pacer ended with impressive figures, claiming four wickets, while Yash Thakur scalped three wickets for Lucknow Super Giants.
