“As long as everyone keeps their mouth shut in India” – Rohit Sharma bashes people who show hypocrisy playing on India pitches after winning the Test on Cape Town pitch.
Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma expressed his dissatisfaction with the criticism directed towards Indian pitches following the Cape Town Test against South Africa, which concluded in a remarkable 107 overs.
The Newlands pitch showcased an increased level of bounce for fast bowlers right from the initial overs, exacerbated by the presence of cracks. In the first innings, Mohammed Siraj wreaked havoc, limiting South Africa to a mere 55 runs – their lowest total in nearly a century.
In response, India managed to score 153 runs, but this included the dismissal of six batsmen for zero runs. The visitors ultimately secured victory by seven wickets during the second session on Day 2.
Surprisingly, there was minimal criticism of the pitch from English and Australian pundits, who typically denounce Indian and sub-continent pitches, often labeling them as “dust bowls” or “sand-mines” when matches conclude in three days on spin-friendly wickets. India’s triumph marked the first victory by an Asian side at Newlands, enabling Rohit Sharma and his team to level the two-Test series 1-1.
Rohit Sharma in the press conference said “I don’t mind playing on pitches like this as long as everyone keeps their mouth shut in India and doesn’t complain about Indian pitches. You come here to challenge yourself. And when people come to India it is challenging as well.”
“I would love to see the chart match referees prepare while rating pitches. We know in India ball spins from Day 1, you are not okay. When ball seams from Day 1, you are okay. That’s not okay,” added Indian captain.
