Asia Cup 2023 Schedule Out, India Vs Pakistan to be held on September 2 in Kandy, final in Colombo on Sep 17.
The anticipation surrounding the men’s Asia Cup has been satisfied as the much-awaited schedule was officially announced on Wednesday. A highlight of the tournament is the iconic clash between India and Pakistan, scheduled to take place on September 2 in Kandy. This edition of the Asia Cup had raised significant speculations regarding India’s participation in matches initially scheduled to be held in Pakistan. However, after deliberations between officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), it was decided that India’s games would be played in Sri Lanka.
The tournament is set to kick off on August 30, with Pakistan taking on Nepal in Multan. Three other matches, including one likely Pakistan Super 4 fixture on September 6, will be held in Lahore. The remaining games, three in Kandy and six in Colombo, will be played in Sri Lanka, culminating in the final on September 17.
The highly-anticipated India-Pakistan round-robin clash is scheduled to take place in Kandy on September 2. The two cricketing giants are also expected to face off again in the Super 4 stage, with the re-match set for September 10 in Colombo.
The commercial success of the tournament largely hinges on the India-Pakistan showdown, as the format has been tailored to allow them to compete against each other at least twice. Both teams have been placed in the same group along with an Associate side (Nepal qualified). Consequently, regardless of their group stage standings, Pakistan will remain designated as A1, and India as A2, ensuring they meet at least twice during the tournament.
