Aus vs Pak 2nd Test: PCB director Hafeez blames ‘inconsistent umpiring’ and ‘technology curse’ for their defeat

Pakistan’s team director, Mohammad Hafeez, attributed part of the team’s 79-run defeat in the second Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to what he described as “inconsistent umpiring and the technology curse.”

Hafeez expressed his frustration with the umpires’ decisions, particularly highlighting the controversial dismissal of Mohammad Rizwan. The pivotal moment occurred when Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, appealed for a caught behind in the 61st over of Pakistan’s second innings.

Initially given not out, the decision was later overturned after a review, despite inconclusive evidence on the hotspot. Rizwan, batting at 35 with Pakistan 98 runs away from victory, left the field in disbelief at the controversial decision.

Here is the video of Rizwan wicket today:

Hafeez said “We made some mistakes as a team, we take that and we will address those things. But at the same time, I believe [that] inconsistent umpiring, technology curse, really given us a result which should’ve been different.

“Pakistan failed to make a comeback after decision given against Mohammad Rizwan. We were very close to the victory in Melbourne Test but I’m very hopeful Pakistan can win Sydney Test.”
