“Babar Azam has a different level of capability” – Gautam Gambhir calls Pakistan skipper class apart from Rohit Sharma, Kohli, Williamson and Root.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has lauded Babar Azam as a standout player to keep an eye on during the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Gambhir, who boasts two World Cup victories under his belt, expressed his admiration for the Pakistan captain, highlighting Azam’s exceptional timing and shot selection as qualities that set him apart from his peers.

In fact, Gambhir went as far as to suggest that Azam ranks higher than some prominent cricketing figures, including India’s captain Rohit Sharma, the modern-day run-machine Virat Kohli, New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson, and England’s stalwart Joe Root.

This statement from Gambhir arrives on the heels of a series of performances by Babar Azam during the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023. In this tournament, Azam displayed glimpses of his prowess with the bat, albeit with some fluctuations in form. In matches against Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka, he posted scores of 17 (22), 10 (24), and 29 (35), respectively. However, what truly caught the attention of cricket enthusiasts was his innings against Nepal, where he hammered an impressive 151 off just 131 deliveries.

Gautam Gambhir said “Babar Azam can set this World Cup on fire. I have seen a lot of players with so much time to bat. I think that Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Joe Root are there, but Babar Azam has a different level of capability.”
