Bangladesh Defeats India by 6runs in the Asia Cup 2023, Shubman Gill knocks goes in vain.

Shubman Gill played a pivotal role as India chased a target of 266 in a thrilling contest, showcasing his skills as the anchor of the team. Despite his brilliant fifth ODI century, Gill found limited support from his teammates. Only KL Rahul provided some stability, contributing 57 runs for the third wicket before his dismissal. Unfortunately, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja couldn’t make significant contributions, leaving Gill partnered with Axar Patel towards the end of the innings.

Axar Patel’s valiant effort, scoring 42 off 34 balls, briefly raised hopes for India. However, his dismissal ultimately sealed India’s fate. The match reached its climax when Mohammed Shami was run out off the second last ball of the last over, confirming India’s loss.

In the earlier innings, Bangladesh faced a top-order collapse but recovered thanks to crucial performances by Shakib Al Hasan, who scored 80, and Towhid Hridoy, who contributed 54 runs. These two players propelled Bangladesh to a competitive total of 265/8, after Indian captain Rohit Sharma chose to bowl in Colombo.

Among the Indian bowlers, Shardul Thakur stood out with figures of 3/66, albeit at an expensive rate. Mohammed Shami (2/32), Prasidh Krishna (1/43), Axar Patel (1/47), and Ravindra Jadeja (1/53) also chipped in with wickets. Shami made an early breakthrough for India, keeping the pressure on Bangladesh during the initial overs before Shakib and Hridoy orchestrated a rescue mission.

Despite this being a dead rubber match, with India already securing their spot in the final and Bangladesh eliminated, it turned out to be a thrilling encounter that went down to the wire, culminating in a nail-biting finish in the last two balls.
