“Both batters are unable to connect the ball properly”, RP Singh feels Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan have been concern in the West Indies T20Is.

RP Singh, the former Indian seamer, has expressed his concerns over the batting performances of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan in the ongoing T20I series against the West Indies. After scoring seven and 27 runs respectively, Gill and Kishan’s performances have raised questions about India’s approach in their batting.

In the second T20I held in Guyana on August 6, India set a target of 153 runs for the Windies. However, the hosts managed to secure a narrow victory, winning the game with two wickets and seven deliveries to spare, and taking a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

During a discussion on JioCinema, RP Singh highlighted India’s lack of a fearless approach in their batting saying “I feel the opening pair’s batting should be a slight area of concern for the Indian batting lineup. The way they are batting, they are not exhibiting that much confidence. The opening pair will have to analyze their game a little more.”

He pointed out that Shubman Gill played a few risky shots in the match, indicating that the young opener needs to be more calculated in his shot selection, on this added “If we talk about Shubman Gill, he played some shots where he probably didn’t see the ball’s line at all and got beaten. He tried to hit straight with hard hands and the ball went over point.”

Singh also pointed out that neither opener timed the ball properly during the powerplay overs “Ishan Kishan tries to hit the ball very hard. But both batters are unable to connect the ball properly. The powerplay didn’t go that well for us. We couldn’t score runs and lost wickets as well. The confidence to move your feet and play the drive was also not seen.”

India’s batting performance in the powerplay overs was lackluster, as they lost two wickets and could only score 34 runs. Shubman Gill was caught at third man while attempting a big shot, and Suryakumar Yadav was run out due to a risky single called by Ishan Kishan.
