“Bowling will decide whether they make a place in the top 4 or not”, says Irfan Pathan on RCB’s possibilities for qualifying to playoffs in IPL 2024.
Irfan Pathan believes that the performance of the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) bowling unit will be crucial to their chances of securing a spot in the playoffs during the upcoming IPL 2024 season.
The RCB franchise, based in Bengaluru, has yet to claim the IPL title despite reaching the final on three occasions. Pathan expressed this sentiment during a discussion on Star Sports, emphasizing the significance of the bowlers in RCB’s quest for playoff qualification in IPL 2024.
The former Indian all-rounder highlighted the challenge RCB faces in securing a top-four finish, particularly stressing the importance of their bowlers delivering consistently, especially in the crucial final overs of innings.
Irfan Pathaan said “Bowling will decide whether they make a place in the top four or not. I won’t call them the strongest contenders because apart from them, there are four or five teams that can go ahead of them.”
“If you win the final few moments, where five to ten runs make a difference, with good bowling, you will have a place in the top four. RCB will have to put in a lot of effort.”
Under the leadership of Faf du Plessis, RCB finished sixth in IPL 2023. Despite remaining in contention for a playoff spot until the final day of the league phase, a defeat to the Gujarat Titans ultimately dashed their hopes of advancing further in the tournament.
