“Can’t believe it, my strike rate’s cooked” – Glenn Maxwell reveals funny reaction of Pat Cummins’ after winning against Afghanistan.

Australian cricket star Glenn Maxwell recently shared an amusing anecdote about skipper Pat Cummins’ playful antics in the dressing room following their extraordinary three-wicket victory over Afghanistan. The match, in which Australia successfully chased down a challenging target of 292 runs, witnessed a remarkable partnership between Maxwell and Cummins.

The Australian team found themselves in a precarious position at 91/7 in the 19th over when Pat Cummins joined Maxwell at the crease. However, what followed was nothing short of cricketing magic, as Maxwell etched his name in history by becoming the first cricketer to score a double century in an ODI run chase. Cummins, on the other hand, played a crucial role by holding one end, contributing 12* off 68 deliveries at a sensible strike rate of 17.64. Together, the duo orchestrated an unbeaten 202-run partnership off 170 balls, steering Australia to a memorable victory.

In a conversation with Fox Cricket, Glenn Maxwell humorously recalled a cheeky remark made by Pat Cummins regarding his own strike rate, jesting about how it took a hit due to Maxwell’s slower-paced innings.

Maxwell said “There’s plenty of banter being thrown around in the changeroom. Pat sort of walked in and thrown his helmet on the ground and gone, ‘Can’t believe it. My strike rate’s cooked. Unbelievable. Jesus. I shouldn’t have knocked back all those singles.”

Maxwell also highlighted the reminiscent atmosphere in the dressing room, drawing parallels to the camaraderie experienced during Australia’s 2021 T20 World Cup triumph.

“Obviously we’re all getting taken the mickey out of. I’m getting taken the mickey out of for not being able to run properly, like a salmon on the ground shaking. It was just such a great feeling in the changeroom. It reminded me of the T20 World Cup in 2021, the same sort of feeling — energetic, electric, exciting and everyone felt like they were heading towards the same end goal. Who knows, it could be the same here.”

Maxwell has been in exceptional form throughout the World Cup, amassing 397 runs at an impressive average of 79.40 and a formidable strike rate of 152.69. Prior to his heroics in the Afghanistan game, the dynamic all-rounder achieved another milestone by scoring the fastest century in World Cup history, reaching the milestone in just 40 balls during the match against the Netherlands.
