Deep Dasgupta says “If you don’t score, it’s like, ‘oh, you can’t score even here?” on double bind situation of Rohit, Kohli in West Indies series.

Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta has expressed his views on the ongoing series in the West Indies, suggesting that it presents a challenging situation for star players such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Dasgupta believes that regardless of their performance, critics and fans are likely to perceive it negatively.

During the second day of the first Test against West Indies in Dominica, Rohit Sharma showcased his batting prowess by achieving his 10th Test century. In a remarkable display, he scored 103 runs off 221 deliveries, forming a formidable opening partnership with debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal, impressively, remained unbeaten at 143 runs off 350 balls. As a result, India concluded Day 2 with a commanding score of 312/2.

Deep Dasgupta to ESPN said “For someone like Rohit or Virat, these series’ are really tough ones because, if you score runs, more often than not people would say it was a sub-par team, conditions were favorable. And, if God forbid, you don’t score runs, then it’s like, ‘oh, you can’t score even here? Where would you score?’ It’s an argument very difficult to win for people like Rohit and Virat. Keeping that in mind, it was a phenomenal effort.”
