Dhruv Jurel likely to make his Test debut in Rajkot replacing KS Bharat, Bumrah to rested for 4th Test.
The Indian cricket team is reportedly considering Dhrul Jurel as an alternative wicket-keeping option due to concerns with KS Bharat’s performance. Jurel, yet to make his international debut, is likely to feature in the upcoming third Test against England in Rajkot from February 15.
While Bharat has shown proficiency with the gloves, his batting contributions have been lacking, maintaining only a modest average of 20.09 without a notable half-century in national colors. Despite Bharat’s home ground advantage in the recent second Test against England, he managed scores of only 17 and 6 in the respective innings.
In contrast, Jurel has displayed promising form in the 2024 Ranji Trophy and unofficial series against England Lions. With Ishan Kishan and Bharat sidelined for various reasons, Jurel has an opportunity to solidify his place in the Test squad, at least until Rishabh Pant’s return.
While Jasprit Bumrah remains a key player for India, considerations for managing his workload amidst a busy schedule have arisen. Initial reports suggested Bumrah’s possible rest for the third Test, but given the series’ pivotal status at 1-1 and a ten-day break before the next match, the team management may opt to retain him for the Rajkot encounter and rest him for the fourth Test in Ranchi.
