Emotional Ravi Shastri says India’s Test win over Australia at Gabba, is his best moment of the career, after getting Lifetime Achievement Award.
Ravi Shastri’s illustrious career has been marked by a series of remarkable moments as he seamlessly transitioned through various roles. From his playing days to gaining international acclaim as a commentator, and later assuming the position of the director of the men’s cricket team followed by years of coaching, Shastri has been a versatile figure in the cricketing world.
Acknowledging his significant contributions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) honored Shastri with the prestigious CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement award. The award ceremony, presented by the esteemed Harsha Bhogle, provided a platform for reflecting on Shastri’s cricketing journey.
During an insightful interview, Bhogle prompted Shastri to recall a moment that would stand out even at the odd hour of 2 am. Shastri, said “Picking one is different but I will go one by one. You showed one when we defeated Pakistan in the final in 1985. Winning the World Cup in 1983 to being in the commentary box when MS Dhoni hit that winning six in the 2011 World Cup final. The win in the 2007 T20 World Cup was also special. Winning two back-to-back series in Australia.”
Emotions ran high when Shastri spoke about India’s triumph at Gabba, a match where Rishabh Pant emerged as the hero in the fourth innings. Despite the absence of key players like Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah, India clinched victory against Australia by 5 wickets.
“The icing on the cake was when we defeated Australia at Gabba with Rishabh Pant hitting the winning runs,” Shastri expressed, encapsulating the sentiment of a remarkable moment in Indian cricket history.
