“Except winning the finals of ICC trophies, we have won everything” – Rohit Sharma on not winning ICC Trophies.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma maintains confidence that the time for winning an ICC trophy will come, expressing contentment with the team’s success in various aspects over the past three years.
Under Rohit’s adept leadership, Team India came close to ending a ten-year ICC title drought last year, although they faced heart-wrenching defeats in the World Test Championship (WTC) and the ODI World Cup finals against Australia. Despite these setbacks in ICC tournaments, India has demonstrated dominance across formats, holding the top position in both white-ball formats and securing the second spot in Tests.
During an interview with Jio Cinema on the sidelines of the opening Test against England, Rohit Sharma emphasized the importance of not dwelling on the past and urged the team to capitalize on future opportunities.
Rohit Sharma said “The last three years have been great. Except winning the finals of ICC trophies, we have won everything. Thatโs one thing weโve not been able to accomplish, but I think time will come. All we need to do is stay in a good mindset, not worry too much about the past because you canโt change the past. What you can change is what is going to come next, so all of us are quite focused on that. We are playing our hearts out.”
Despite their ICC title challenges, the Men in Blue showcased their prowess in the 2023 ODI World Cup, winning all nine league-stage games and defeating New Zealand in the semi-final. However, the quest for the coveted ICC title continued as Australia delivered a clinical performance in the summit clash in Ahmedabad.
