Gujarat Giants appoints Beth Mooney as the captain for WPL 2024.
With the impending arrival of the second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), Gujarat Giants, under the ownership of Adani Sportsline, has unveiled its leadership team. Australian cricketer Beth Mooney will lead the team as captain, supported by Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana as her deputy. Joining them in the leadership group are head coach Michael Klinger, mentor Mithali Raj, and assistant coach Nooshin Al Khadeer.
Mooney, who previously captained Gujarat Giants in the inaugural season, brings a wealth of experience to the role. Despite an early exit from the tournament due to injury, Mooney’s credentials as one of the premier batters in international T20 cricket are well-established. Her impressive track record includes multiple victories in the T20 World Cup and other prestigious tournaments, solidifying her reputation as a formidable force on the field.
Rana, known for her off-break bowling and proficient batting skills, has been a standout performer for the Indian cricket team. Making her debut in both ODI and T20I formats in 2014, and later in Tests in 2021, Rana has consistently showcased her talent and versatility. In the inaugural season of WPL, she stepped up as captain in Mooney’s absence and delivered notable performances, further solidifying her role as a key player for Gujarat Giants.
