“Have 2 or 3 days away from Cricket” – Michael Vaughan give suggestion to Jonny Bairstow over his poor performance in Ashes 2023.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan has suggested that wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow should take a break from cricket for a few days in order to overcome his recent poor performance with both the bat and gloves in the Ashes series. Despite Bairstow’s struggles, England managed to emerge victorious in the third Test at Headingley, winning by three wickets. However, Bairstow’s individual performance was disappointing, scoring only five runs in the second innings and just 12 in the first innings after coming in at the fall of skipper Ben Stokes.
With the fourth Test scheduled to begin on July 19 at Old Trafford, Vaughan, who led England to an Ashes victory in 2005, believes that a break could greatly benefit Bairstow. In an interview with Cricbuzz following the third Test, Vaughan expressed his opinion on the matter.
Michael Vaughan said “Think the best thing for Jonny is this break. Would advice him to have 2 or 3 days away from Cricket, go and switch off. Go and play golf, wouldn’t say Golf because last time he played golf he got injured ( laughs). Go and do something away from the game and then have 4 or 5 days of real hard intensive practice to sharpen up behind the stumps to gather some confidence from his practice.”
