‘He has looked the most disappointing so far’- Ricky Ponting wants James Anderson to be dropped for the next Ashes test.
The England cricket team finds themselves in a precarious position, trailing 0-2 in the Ashes 2023 series after suffering defeats in the first two Tests at Edgbaston and Lord’s against their arch-rivals Australia. The team led by Ben Stokes appeared ineffective in all aspects of the game during the second Test, failing to capitalize on crucial moments throughout the match.
One of the major concerns for England has been the lackluster performance of their legendary seamer, James Anderson. The veteran bowler seemed to lack his usual energy and effectiveness while running in to deliver his deliveries. As the series hangs in the balance, England must make some tough decisions in order to stage a comeback and keep their Ashes hopes alive.
Ricky Ponting, former captain of the Australian cricket team, has suggested that dropping Anderson may be necessary as he has been the “most disappointing bowler for England thus far” in the series.
Ponting in ICC review said “He (Anderson) looked like the most disappointing bowler for England so far. What you expect from James Anderson is when he’s got that new ball in his hand, he’s taking early wickets, he’s moving the ball, and he’s not going for any runs. We haven’t seen that in the series so far,”.
Ponting also suggested bring in of Mark Wood saying “I think the other one that they’ll have to think about is Mark Wood. If Mark Wood is fit they need that bit of firepower and penetration, especially knowing now that they need to win the last three Test matches,”
