“He is going to be a very dangerous bowler”, Robin Uthappa on Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of World Cup 2023.
Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa holds the belief that the experienced spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, is likely to secure a spot in India’s World Cup 2023 squad if all-rounder Axar Patel is unable to recover in time. According to Uthappa, Ashwin’s skillset can be particularly effective in the spin-friendly conditions prevalent in India. Uthappa also commended Ashwin for his noteworthy return to the One Day International (ODI) format.
Ravichandran Ashwin, a veteran off-spinner, was included in the playing XI for the first two matches of India’s ongoing three-match home ODI series against Australia. In these two games, Ashwin showcased his proficiency by taking four crucial wickets. However, for the third fixture, he was replaced by Washington Sundar, indicating the team’s flexibility and depth in spin bowling options.
Robin Uthaapa said “It certainly seems like Ashwin will be the number-one pick if India miss out Axar Patel. With his experience in India, he is going to be a very dangerous bowler. He got an outside chance, and he is a high-quality player who brings out his best performances in such situations. From not being selected in the World Cup squad to deceiving batters in the Australia series, Ashwin has done exceptionally well.”
