“He is the vice-captain of this team for sure but you get the feeling that the notice period is on” :Akash Chopra as Ajinkya Rahane fails against West Indies
Aakash Chopra, a former Indian opener and cricket analyst, has expressed concerns over Ajinkya Rahane’s position in the Indian Test team. Despite being the vice-captain of the side, Rahane’s recent performance has raised doubts about his spot in the team.
During India’s first innings of the second Test against the West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Thursday, July 20, Rahane managed to score only eight runs before getting dismissed. While the rest of the team performed well, with India finishing Day 1 on a solid 288/4, thanks to notable contributions from Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli, Rahane’s underwhelming performance was a point of concern.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra analyzed the day’s play and focused on the dismissals of the two Indian batters who failed to make a significant impact. He appeared skeptical about Rahane’s ability to hold onto his place in the side given his recent struggles with the bat.
Chopra said “Ajinkya Rahane – he is the vice-captain of this team for sure but you get the feeling that the notice period is on. It happens with some players and it seems like it is happening with him as well or will happen.”
Chopra believed that he could have got dismissed earlier too, saying “He got an inside edge once earlier as well. Then he got it a second time and the ball hit the stumps. It was a session where India lost four wickets and the run-scoring was slow but in the end, India are in a commanding situation.”
