“He plays golf right-handed”:- Sean Abbott talks upon David Warner playing right handed in the 2nd ODI against India.
The ongoing three-match ODI series between India and Australia has reached an exciting juncture, with India securing victories in the first two matches and consequently clinching the series in a commanding fashion. This triumph has undoubtedly boosted the confidence of the Indian team, especially with the impending ODI World Cup 2023 on the horizon.
In the second ODI, India displayed a stellar performance, securing a resounding 99-run victory in a contest marred by rain interruptions. However, one of the most intriguing highlights of the game revolved around the veteran Australian opener, David Warner, who decided to bat right-handed against the spin of Indian bowler Ravichandran Ashwin.
Warner, during his innings, managed to accumulate 53 runs from 39 deliveries, appearing quite comfortable at the crease while experimenting with his right-handed batting stance against Ashwin. Regrettably, this unconventional approach led to his dismissal shortly after.
In a notable turn of events, Australian pacer Sean Abbott shared his perspective on Warner’s decision to bat right-handed in such a high-pressure match. Abbott explained that since Warner is known to play golf right-handed, he attempted this unconventional strategy as an experiment, with the intention of disrupting Ashwin’s rhythm on the field.
Sean Abbott in post match conference said “I think if David Warner is just going to sit there and bat left-handed, Ashwin is not going to miss his length too often. With the ball spinning so much, he’s got the one that goes the other way, the straighter one, and all the variations along with that. Davey just thought he had to change it up.”
“He plays golf right-handed, we see how dynamic he is with his switch-hitting and stuff, so he weighed up those options. He’s done it before, he practices batting in the nets.”
