“He’s just been nowhere in this Test” – Ian Healy spots light over David Warner’s Test failures in recent times.
Former Australian wicket-keeper and batsman, Ian Healy, has expressed his opinion on David Warner’s recent struggles in the ongoing 3rd Ashes Test at Headingley. Healy believes that Warner is once again facing pressure after being dismissed cheaply in both innings. According to Healy, the explosive opener seemed to lack clarity in his approach during his time at the crease.
Warner had performed reasonably well in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s, scoring 66 and 25 runs in the two innings. However, in the current Test, he experienced two single-figure scores. His recurring nemesis, Stuart Broad, further added to his impressive record by dismissing Warner for the 17th time in his career. On this occasion, Warner edged the ball to Zak Crawley at slip.
During the tea break on the second day, Healy shared his thoughts from the Nine Studio, highlighting that Warner’s performance at Headingley has been far from his usual standards. Healy emphasized that unlike previous occasions when Warner laid a strong foundation for the team’s success, the left-hander has failed to make a significant impact in the current Test.
Ian Healy “It worries me. He’s smiling a little too much. I’m hopeful it’s not a smile and it just looks like a smile. He’s numb, he’s not really into the innings, his clarity in the mind wasn’t there to get 300. Australia have got to get 300 now. He’s been the real warrior that leads us into those innings in the past, but he’s just been nowhere in this Test when we need to really add 300 at least to our lead of 29 (26).”
