“I do feel a little bad but I’m used to it now… it’s been three World Cups” – Yuzvendra Chahal on not getting selected for World Cup 2023.

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal had been harboring hopes of securing a spot in India’s squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup for an extended period. However, in the recent Asia Cup, the team management made the strategic choice of favoring Axar Patel over him. Unfortunately, Patel was later forced to withdraw from the mega tournament due to an injury. Subsequently, the think tank made the decision to call upon the experience of Ravichandran Ashwin, ultimately leaving Chahal out of contention.

In response to his regrettable omission, Chahal candidly shared his perspective, stating that he has become accustomed to such disappointments, as similar instances have occurred in his cricketing journey in the past. The 33-year-old cricketer expressed his sadness at not making the cut for the World Cup but acknowledged the limitations of selecting a mere 15 players for the tournament.

Chahal (to Wisden) said “I understand that only fifteen players can be a part, because it’s a World Cup, where you can’t take 17 or 18,” Chahal told Wisden India earlier this week. “I do feel a little bad, but my motto in life is to move on. I’m used to it now… it’s been three World Cups (laughs).”
