“I don’t think there’s any spinner in India better than Yuzvendra Chahal in white-ball formats”,Harbhajan Singh as the spinner is exculuded from Asia Cup squad.
Legendary Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has expressed his disappointment with the selectors’ decision to exclude Yuzvendra Chahal from the Asia Cup 2023 squad. Despite a few subpar performances, Harbhajan believes Chahal is still the country’s top limited-overs spinner. The 33-year-old was left out of the 17-member squad for the upcoming championship, while Kuldeep Yadav secured a spot as the sole wrist spinner alongside spin all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel.
Harbhajan emphasized that occasional underwhelming displays should not overshadow Chahal’s overall skills, asserting that a dip in form doesn’t define his abilities. Chahal, a seasoned leg spinner, has experienced fluctuations in his presence within the team over the past few years. Despite being named in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 squad, he didn’t get a chance to play a single match during the tournament.
Harbhajan Singh on his YT channel said “The one thing I feel is lacking in the team is the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal. A leg-spinner who can get the ball to turn away. If you talk about genuine spinner, I don’t think there’s any spinner in India better than Chahal in white-ball formats. Yes, his last few games weren’t good, but that doesn’t make him a bad bowler.”
Further he added “I think his presence in the team was necessary. I hope the doors aren’t closed to him. It’s important to consider him for the World Cup because the tournament is in India. Chahal is a proven match-winner. I can understand his form isn’t good, so you may have rested him. But I think if he was with the team, his confidence would’ve stayed intact. Any player who comes back after being dropped, the pressure to perform is always there.”
