“I just said let there be a different white-ball and red-ball captain, did not remove Kohli from captaincy”: Sourav Ganguly.

Sourav Ganguly has refuted claims that he ousted Virat Kohli from the India captaincy, asserting he had no role in Kohli’s removal from ODIs. Kohli stepped down as T20I captain post the 2021 T20 World Cup but continued in ODIs until his subsequent removal.

Ganguly clarified that he merely suggested separate captains for limited-overs and Tests, dispelling rumors of his involvement in Kohli’s departure.

Ganguly said “I didn’t remove Virat from captaincy. I have told this a lot of times. He was not interested to lead in T20Is. So, after he made that decision, I told him, if you’re not interested to lead in T20Is, it’s better if you step down from entire white-ball cricket. Let there be a white-ball captain and a red-ball captain.”
