“I like Ishan Kishan because he just opens up the game for any team”, Ganguly picks the wicketkeeper for World Cup 2023.
Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly recently addressed India’s search for a wicketkeeper-batter ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup, both of which are set to take place on home soil. This selection decision has gained significant importance, particularly due to Rishabh Pant’s absence following a car crash injury.A prominent figure in Indian cricket, Ganguly shared his perspective on the matter. He expressed his inclination towards Ishan Kishan as the preferred choice for the wicketkeeper-batter role.
Ganguly highlighted Kishan’s explosive and aggressive batting style as a pivotal factor contributing to this preference, saying
“Pant is the best wicketkeeper in the country, but you can see Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul (depending on his fitness); these two will be right up in Rohit’s and Rahul’s minds. I like Ishan Kishan because he just opens up the game for any team. I am sure Dravid will keep him in his plans.”
In accordance with his strategic vision for the team, Ganguly emphasized the significance of maintaining a well-rounded squad comprising both experienced campaigners and emerging talents. He specifically spotlighted players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, and Ishan Kishan.
It has to be a team of experience and people who don’t have any scars — like Jaiswal, Varma, Ishan Kishan. They can go and play fearless cricket. Rahul (Dravid), Rohit and the selectors have plenty of choices; they just have to identify and pick the best XI.”
