“I looked at it as off-season, got a lot of time to spend with my family” ,Jasprit Bumrah talks on the positive side of injury break.

Team India’s premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has opened up about his perspective during his hiatus caused by injury, referring to it as his “off-season.” During this time, he cherished the opportunity to spend quality moments with his family, a luxury he hadn’t been able to afford due to his demanding cricket schedule.

Bumrah’s absence from the game since September 2022, attributed to a back injury, led to his unfortunate absence from major events like the T20 World Cup last year. However, after undergoing a successful surgery in March and completing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), he was appointed as the captain for the upcoming tour of Ireland.

The 29-year-old speedster is all set to mark his highly anticipated return to the field as the Indian team faces Ireland in their first T20I in Dublin on August 18. In a pre-match statement, Bumrah reflected on his time away from cricket, highlighting how he managed to maintain a positive outlook despite the challenges he faced during his recovery.

Bumrah said “I was not really thinking about it too much. Anyways you are facing an injury, so you are trying to solve that problem rather than thinking about what the world is saying or what you have to do. I was just thinking about recuperating and fixing things.”

After the fix happened, I started enjoying my rehab as well. You learn to enjoy a game a lot more. Usually, we don’t get a lot of time off. Probably after 10-11 years, this is the first time in summer I was at home and I spoke to my mother about it.

He added “I looked at it as off-season, got a lot of time to spend with my family. Looking at the positives. Obviously, it was a little disappointing that you are away from the game. You want to play and contribute. You miss some important tournaments as well, but that’s something that you cannot control, so you can’t be really frustrated about it.”
