“I made a terrible mistake. Sharing false information which was not true at all” – De Villiers states his information on Virat Kohli’s not playing England Series was incorrect.

AB de Villiers has clarified that the information he shared on his YouTube channel about Virat Kohli’s extended absence is not accurate. Previously, De Villiers had mentioned that Kohli would be unavailable for the first two Tests against England due to the expected birth of his second child. However, De Villiers now states that this information is untrue.

AB de Villiers said Family comes first, it’s priority, as I said on my YouTube channel. Also, made a terrible mistake at the same time, sharing false information which was not true at all. I just think whatever is best for Virat and his family comes first.”

“No one knows what is happening there, all I can do is wish him well, and the whole world that follows Virat and enjoys his cricket must wish him well. Whatever the reason is for this break, I really hope that he comes back stronger and better, healthier and fresh, and ready to take on the world again.”

While Kohli’s sudden withdrawal from the squad raised questions, various reasons were speculated, including a family member’s illness. Kohli’s brother refuted these claims on social media. Kohli was initially part of the squad for the Test series against England but withdrew abruptly, leading to the BCCI issuing an official statement and bringing in Rajat Patidar as a replacement. Kohli is yet to provide details on the reasons for his departure.
