“I see too much casualness” – Michael Vaughan not impressed by England’s performance on Day 1 of 2nd Ashes Test.

The Ashes 2023:Former England captain Michael Vaughan has expressed his disappointment with the performance of the English cricket team, led by Ben Stokes, during the first day of the 2nd Ashes Test at Lord’s. Vaughan believes that the team displayed a lack of urgency, failing to meet the expectations placed upon them. Despite having won the toss and encountered favorable conditions, England was unable to capitalize on the situation, despite fielding a formidable four-pronged pace attack. Meanwhile, Australia managed to reach a score of 339-5 at stumps, with rain interrupting play multiple times throughout the day.

Speaking to BBC Michael Vaughan said “I just get the sense that it’s just another game of cricket. The Ashes is not just another game of cricket,” he said. “You can be as casual as you like against many other sides, but I’m afraid this is when it matters. Against Australia, this is what defines you. They haven’t bowled well enough, haven’t caught well enough and they’re bowling no-balls. It is just not good enough. When they got David Warner out, Steve Smith got four or five juicy half-volleys. It got him going.”
