Australian head coach Andrew McDonald has suggested that Mitchell Marsh may soon be appointed as captain for the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to take place in the West Indies and USA in June. Marsh, who led the Australian team to a 3-0 victory over New Zealand in a recent T20I series, has garnered confidence from both team management and selectors for his leadership qualities.
Andrew McDonald said “I think all roads will lead to Mitch, so just got to get that ticked off in certain areas. Weโre happy and comfortable with the way heโs been able to operate with that T20 team. We think heโs the leader for the (T20) World Cup, and I think that will just be a matter of due course.”
Notably, Marsh played a pivotal role in Australia’s triumph in the 2021 T20 World Cup final against New Zealand. He was awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance, scoring an unbeaten 77 runs off 50 balls to guide his team to victory with eight wickets in hand, chasing a target of 173 runs in the 19th over
