“I think Jos Buttler will be the leading run-scorer”, Jacques Kallis gives his prediction for World Cup 2023.
South African cricket icon Jacques Kallis has made a prognostication regarding England’s captain for white-ball cricket, Jos Buttler. Kallis envisions Buttler as the prominent run-scorer during the forthcoming 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Kallis is confident in Buttler’s exceptional batting abilities, which he believes will be advantageous in the Indian playing conditions.
Scheduled from October 5 to November 19, the 2023 World Cup is set to take place in India. England, the reigning titleholders, secured victory in the 2019 tournament on home soil by prevailing over New Zealand in the final at Lord’s, clinching the championship through a boundary count rule.
During an interview posted on the ICC’s Instagram account, Kallis was prompted to forecast the individual who will accumulate the highest number of runs in the 2023 World Cup.
Kallis said “I think Jos Buttler will be the leading run-scorer. Outside call, but I fancy him in those conditions along with England having a good World Cup. I think he’s going to be the one guy that stands out.”
Buttler’s career includes participation in 165 ODIs, where he has amassed a total of 4647 runs, maintaining an average of 41.49. He has achieved 11 centuries and 24 half-centuries. Nevertheless, his performance in Indian one-day matches has been lackluster, as he has garnered only 83 runs across eight matches, with an average of 11.85 and a personal best of 31.
With regard to his World Cup performances, Buttler has competed in 17 matches, contributing 453 runs at an average of 34.84, including one century.
