“I thought I’ll be serving water”: Kl Rahul reveals he was informed that he is playing 5 minutes before the toss.

KL Rahul, India’s stylish right-handed batsman, shared insights into his unexpected inclusion in the high-intensity match against Pakistan during the Super Four stage of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. Rahul’s standout performance, where he crafted a magnificent century against the Men in Green, played a pivotal role in India’s resounding 228-run victory at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Monday, September 11.

Notably, Rahul’s inclusion in the playing XI came as a result of Shreyas Iyer’s unfortunate back spasm. According to Rahul, it was head coach Rahul Dravid who informed him of his participation just minutes before the start of the match.

Kl Rahul said “Rahul (Dravid) bhai 5 minutes before the toss told me I’m playing. I didn’t bring anything with me, because I thought I’ll be serving water. Strange things have happened to me in my career.”

Reflecting on his outstanding innings, Rahul remained unbeaten, amassing an impressive 111 runs from 106 deliveries. His innings featured two sixes and twelve boundaries. Additionally, Rahul formed an unbroken 233-run partnership with Virat Kohli, guiding India to a formidable total of 356.
