“I wasn’t making a mistake in the three T20Is, but couldn’t convert my starts”:-Shubman Gill

India’s stylish opener Shubman Gill has opened up about his challenges during the initial three T20Is against the West Indies. Notably, Gill bounced back impressively in the fourth T20I, delivering an exceptional performance by scoring 77 runs off 47 balls. This partnership was vital as he and Yashasvi Jaiswal put up a crucial 165-run stand, contributing significantly to India’s level score in the series, which currently stands at 2-2.

However, Gill faced difficulties in the first three T20Is, managing single-digit scores of three, seven, and six runs in those matches. Despite the struggle, Gill expressed his confidence in his playing approach throughout these matches.During the chase, Gill and Jaiswal established a strong foundation with a record-breaking opening partnership of 165 runs, which is also the highest for India in T20Is. This partnership enabled India to successfully chase down the target of 179 runs set by the Windies. Gill’s impressive knock of 77 runs included five sixes and three fours, showcasing his aggressive style of play and a solid strike rate of 163.82.

Reflecting upon his knock Gill said “It’s important to go to your basics. You have to identify whether you are making any mistake. I felt I wasn’t making a mistake in any of the three matches. But I couldn’t convert my starts. T20 format is like that.”

“When you have 3-4 matches where a good shot is caught by the fielder, and you have to eye at making quick runs, you don’t have time to think much. You just look at what your template was when you were consistently scoring runs.”

Looking ahead, team India is eager to maintain their winning momentum in the fifth and final T20I match, aiming to secure victory in the series. The decisive match between the two teams will take place at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill on Sunday, August 13th.
