“I won’t be surprised if Yashasvi Jaiswal is pushing in all formats over the next eight to ten months”, says Aakash Chopra.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, the talented young left-handed batsman, has made a strong impact with his exceptional debut performance against West Indies. In that match, he showcased his skills by scoring a magnificent 171 runs, leading India to a comfortable victory. This remarkable debut has garnered widespread attention and has further solidified Jaiswal’s position in the cricketing world.
As a testament to his growing stature, Jaiswal has now been selected in India’s Asian Games squad. This selection indicates the selectors’ recognition of his talent and potential. However, renowned commentator Aakash Chopra believes that Jaiswal’s inclusion in the Asian Games squad suggests that he is currently not in contention for the ODI format, as per the selectors’ plans. Chopra asserts that Jaiswal’s extraordinary batting prowess will eventually lead him to become an all-format player in the near future.
The Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China, in September-October this year, will feature a 15-member Indian squad. It is worth noting that players participating in the Asian Games are typically excluded from prominent events like the World Cup due to the overlap in schedules.
Aakash Chopra shared his insights on the selection of batsmen for the Asian Games squad in a video posted on his YouTube channel. He specifically addressed Jaiswal’s situation, highlighting the young cricketer’s immense potential and the path he may follow in his cricketing career.
Chopra said “Yashasvi Jaiswalย – it is a beautiful situation. The guy scored a century on Test debut, you have not kept him in the ODI list, so he is a part of the Asian Games. He is not in the ODI race currently, whether it is the Asia Cup or the World Cup. However, over the next eight to ten months, I won’t be surprised if he is pushing in all formats.”
