“I’d be very surprised if England play James Anderson at The Oval”, Ricky Ponting on inclusion of James Anderson in 5th Test.

In a recent statement, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting shared his thoughts on the upcoming fifth and final Ashes Test between England and Australia, set to take place at The Oval in London starting on Thursday, July 27. Ponting expressed his surprise if England decides to include James Anderson in their playing XI for the crucial match.

James Anderson, the seasoned pacer, has had a challenging season, failing to showcase his usual form. In the last three Tests, he managed to take just four wickets, which is below his usual standards. Acknowledging Anderson’s off-color campaign, Ponting emphasized that the England team’s management might reconsider their decision to include him for the final Test given his lack of impact with the ball.

Ricky Ponting on ICC review said “James Anderson has lacked penetration right through the series, so it’s going to be a really interesting decision, I think, from England now going into this last Test. So, I must admit, I’d be very surprised if they do go ahead and play him at The Oval.”

He added more “Because what I saw with (Josh) Tongue at Lord’s was the pick of their bowlers in that Lord’s game and then he’s gone straight back out. So, I’d be very surprised if Anderson actually plays this last Test. If they do, you talk about this selection of Manchester being the sentimental one. I think now if they pick him at the Oval, that will be more sentimental than anything,”
