“It is just amazing that to be able to come back here after 12 years, having played more than 100 Test matches” – Virat Kohli shares a heartfelt note.
Senior Team India batsman Virat Kohli expressed his heartfelt appreciation upon his return to the Caribbean, the place where his illustrious Test career commenced. Kohli, who had made his debut at Sabina Park in 2011, also had the privilege of participating in the inaugural Test match held at Windsor Park in Dominica.During his maiden appearance, a young 21-year-old Kohli managed to contribute 30 runs in his sole innings in a Test match that ultimately ended in a draw. Now, after a span of 12 years, Kohli once again graces the same venue as one of the finest batters to have ever graced the game. This upcoming series in 2023 will mark his fourth Test tour of the Caribbean, having previously played in 2016 and 2019 as well.
In video by BCCI released Virat Kohli said “When we went into the dressing room, when we went to practice, I kind of remembered my first series here as a Test player. This is the country where it all started, I mean the Caribbean, and it is just amazing that to be able to come back here after 12 years, having played more than 100 Test matches, I would have never imagined anything like this.”
During the 2011 tour, another notable presence was Rahul Dravid, who now holds the position of Head Coach for Team India. Kohli and Dravid had the opportunity to be teammates for a brief period until the esteemed batsman announced his retirement. Kohli emphasized that their current roles have come full circle after 12 years, highlighting the transformation in their respective positions within the cricketing realm.
He further added “It is quite amazing, I told Rahul bhai yesterday as well, I said you would never have imagined that 12 years later we will be coming back to the same venue and you will be the head coach and I would have played more than 100 games, no one would have guessed that one.”
“I’m just blessed that we are the only two members from the last trip. Still here in different capacities, it’s like life has come full circle and the journey has been quite amazing.”
