Mohammad Kaif compares Ambati Rayudu’s six to that of Virat Kohli’s against Pakistan, Calls It ‘Shot Of The Tournament’.
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has expressed admiration for Ambati Rayudu’s outstanding cameo of 19*(8) during the IPL 2023 final between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT). Kaif specifically praised a six that Rayudu struck off the bowling of Mohit Sharma in the 13th over. Rayudu displayed remarkable anticipation and technique as he stayed on the backfoot, expecting a slower delivery, and then flat-batted the ball over the head of the long-off fielder for a colossal six.
During his analysis, Mohammad Kaif drew parallels between Rayudu’s six and a similar shot played by Virat Kohli against Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf in the T20 World Cup. Both shots showcased the batsmen’s ability to read the situation, anticipate the bowler’s intentions, and execute their strokes with precision and power.
Mohammad Kaif said “That impactful knock from Ambati Rayudu was the game-changing moment. His innings was very crucial in the context of the game. The six he hit going on the back foot was the shot of the tournament for me. It was identical to that iconic six which Virat Kohli hit in the T20 World Cup against Pakistan in Melbourne last year. Rayudu looked emotional but full credit to him for ending his IPL career on such a high”.
