In a significant pre-season development, Mumbai Indians (MI), the five-time champions, have revealed a change in leadership. All-rounder Hardik Pandya will now lead the team, taking over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma.

Hardik Pandya makes a return to MI after a two-year stint with Gujarat Titans, facilitated through a player trade. His leadership stint with Gujarat was marked by notable success, leading the team to a title victory in their debut season in 2022 and securing a spot in the final again in 2023, though they narrowly lost to Chennai Super Kings in a thrilling last-ball finish

In a surprising move just before the auction, MI acquired Hardik Pandya through a player trade, involving a payment of INR 15 crore to Gujarat Titans and an undisclosed transfer fee. This transaction brings the 30-year-old all-rounder back to the franchise that initially invested in him, having bought him for INR 10 Lakh in the 2015 auction.
