‘My comeback wouldn’t have been possible without Virat Kohli’: Yuvraj Singh.
Yuvraj Singh has bid farewell to his remarkable cricket career. Throughout his journey, he amassed impressive statistics, featuring in 40 Tests, 304 ODIs, and 58 T20Is. Yuvraj was a vital part of India’s triumphs in various tournaments, including the Under-19 World Cup in 2000, the shared ICC Champions Trophy victory with Sri Lanka in 2000, the T20 World Cup triumph in 2007, and the 2011 50-overs World Cup victory.
Yuvraj’s contributions to India’s victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 World Cup will forever be cherished by cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
In a recent interview, Yuvraj opened up about his battle with cancer and his remarkable comeback to cricket. He revealed that during his return to the side in 2017, then-captain Virat Kohli provided him with immense support. Yuvraj expressed his desire to participate in the 2019 World Cup but was eventually dropped from the team shortly after the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. He also mentioned how MS Dhoni informed him that the selectors were not considering him for the 2019 World Cup, highlighting the communication within the team.
Yuvraj Singh said “When I made my comeback, Virat Kohli supported me. Had he not backed me then I wouldn’t have made a comeback. But then it was Dhoni who showed me the correct picture about the 2019 World Cup that selectors are not looking at you,”.”He showed me the real picture. He gave me clarity. He did as much as he could.”
He further talked about Ms Dhoni confidence over him “Till the 2011 World Cup, MS had a lot of confidence in me and used to tell me that ‘you are my main player’,”.”But after coming back from illness the game changed and a lot of changes happened in the team. So as far as the 2015 World Cup is concerned, you can’t really pinpoint at something. So this is a very personal call.
