“My opinion still valid” – Mitchell Johnson doesn’t hold back even after David Warner century in 1st Test at Perth.
Former Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has generated considerable discussion in the cricket world with his recent remarks regarding seasoned opener David Warner. Johnson raised questions about why Warner is receiving a hero’s farewell from Test cricket, especially considering his involvement in the ball-tampering incident in 2018.
Adding to his critique, Johnson expressed dissatisfaction with Warner’s current form in the longest format of the game. In his view, Warner’s performance did not justify the announcement of a retirement date from Test cricket. Despite Johnson’s comments, Warner effectively silenced his critics with a remarkable 164-run innings against Pakistan in the first Test.
However, even after Warner’s impressive performance, Johnson remains unswayed and maintains that his opinion on Warner is still valid. He continues to question whether younger players should be given opportunities in the Test squad, suggesting a reconsideration of team composition in the longest format of the game
Johnson said “I think my opinion in this column a couple of weeks ago is still valid. He hadn’t scored runs in about three years apart from the double century last summer. Another point made was that a soft summer like this, with Australia expected to comfortably beat Pakistan and the West Indies, was the perfect time to look at blooding some new players into an ageing team.”
