Naveen-ul-Haq will retire from ODIs at 24 after World Cup 2023.
Afghanistan’s fast bowler, Naveen-ul-Haq, has officially announced his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs) following the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. This significant decision was made public through Naveen’s social media platform on Wednesday, September 27.
While confirming his departure from the ODI format, Naveen-ul-Haq also made it clear that he intends to continue representing Afghanistan in the shorter format of the game, T20Is. The 24-year-old cited his desire to extend his cricketing career as the primary reason behind this choice.
Naveen-ul-Haq posted a post on Instagram
“It has been an absolute honour to represent my country would like to announce my retirement from ODI format at end of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey in t20 cricket for my country it hasn’t been an easy decision to make but to prolong my playing career had to take this tough decision would like to thank @afghanistancricketboard And all my fans for their support and unwavering love 🇦🇫♥️
It’s important to note that Naveen-ul-Haq had to undergo knee surgery earlier this year, which consequently led to his absence from Afghanistan’s two-match T20I series against Bangladesh due to his injury. In the ODI format, Naveen has not been a consistent presence in Afghanistan’s lineup. His most recent appearance in ODIs dates back to January 2021, against Ireland, where he has managed to secure 14 wickets from seven matches.
