No assurance has been provided to Rohit Sharma regarding his inclusion in the T20 squad.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially stated that no commitment can be provided to Rohit Sharma regarding his inclusion in the T20 squad.
There were previous reports circulating that Rohit sought an assurance from the governing body before consenting to captain the team in the upcoming global tournament set to take place in the West Indies and USA in June next year.
Jay Shah, the Secretary of the BCCI, has clarified that there can be no guarantee given to Rohit regarding his selection in the T20 team. There is a prevailing opinion that Rohit should be included in the squad for the ICC tournament scheduled from June 3 to 30. Some media reports suggest that the 36-year-old cricketer has sought clarification on his role within the T20 team.
Jay Shah said “We have a T20I series against Afghanistan and the Indian Premier League before the T20 World Cup and we will take a good decision.”
Rohit has been absent from T20 Internationals since the last T20 World Cup, and recently, Suryakumar Yadav assumed the captaincy for Team India in the three-match T20I series against South Africa, filling in for Hardik Pandya who was unavailable.
