Former Sri Lankan spin maestro, Muttiah Muralitharan, opines that Virat Kohli’s spirited approach on the cricket field brings out the finest in the prolific batsman, a sentiment that resonates through his stellar performances.
Kohli’s penchant for aggressive celebrations on the pitch has often stirred debates, with some suggesting it might be excessive. Over time, Kohli appears to have toned down his on-field intensity compared to his earlier days. However, Muralitharan advocates for Kohli to persist in showcasing his passion and aggression for the game unabashedly.
Muralitharan on TRS podcast said “Even if he isn’t the captain, you will see that he will celebrate (the wicket) more than the bowler. That’s his passion for the game. So once he loses that, he is finished. Until that, many people will be saying he is aggressive. Be yourself. Outside, he is a gentleman, He is quiet, calm and is a nice person.”
“That’s the passion. That’s why he is Kohli and he shouldn’t change that. I always say never change the attitude. He should do what he is doing in the middle otherwise his performance will drop,” added the spinner.
