‘Played it like probably it’s his fifth match’: Dinesh Karthik hails Virat Kohli for his knock in milestone 500th match.
In the second Test against West Indies at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad, Star India batter Virat Kohli showcased his batting prowess and took India to safety on Day 1. The match was particularly significant as it marked Kohli’s 500th international game. Despite early setbacks, Kohli’s resilient performance, along with Ravindra Jadeja’s support, led India to a comfortable position at stumps on Day 1, finishing at 288/4.
When Kohli walked in to bat, India was at 153/2. However, two quick wickets of Shubman Gill (10) and Ajinkya Rahane (8) put India in a precarious position at 182/4. Undeterred, Kohli remained focused and determined to steer India’s innings to safer shores.
Throughout the course of his innings, Kohli displayed remarkable skill and determination. He remained unbeaten on a well-crafted 87 runs, a testament to his hunger for runs even in the milestone 500th game. The Indian team’s former wicketkeeper-batter, Dinesh Karthik, praised Kohli’s gritty knock, acknowledging his unwavering commitment to contributing significantly to the team’s success.
Karthik to CricBuzz said “Mr Virat Kohli, King Kohli as we lovingly call him. And we all can say the lovely shots that he played; the cover drive, the pull. The pull was really good for me, with what happened in previous years. Here’s the man who is playing his 500th match but played it like probably it’s his fifth match. The hunger on a pitch that probably didn’t aid stroke-making, he fought through it.”
