Reports: Rishabh Pant would be leading Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024,but wicket keeping is doubtful.
Star Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is poised to take on the captaincy role for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the upcoming 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, DC has retained Pant, who, as per reports from Cricbuzz, is expected to regain full fitness by February.
Pant’s absence from the cricketing arena for nearly a year, resulting from a serious car accident, saw him miss crucial Test series and ICC events. His match-winning prowess was notably absent in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final and the 2023 World Cup, leaving a void in the Indian team.
The anticipated return of the dynamic batter is significant for both Indian cricket and the Delhi Capitals. However, there remains uncertainty regarding Pant’s immediate resumption of wicketkeeping duties. Following a right knee injury sustained in the accident, Pant underwent major surgery in Mumbai.
In the event that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not clear Pant for wicketkeeping, reports suggest that he could contribute as an impact player. A franchise official shared insights with Cricbuzz, stating, “If he (Pant) is not keeping, he will definitely be on the field and will lead the side.”
