“Rohit Sharma was retired out”: Aakash Chopra questions umpire for allowing Rohit Sharma to bat again in Super Over.

The third and final T20I between India and Afghanistan contested on January 17 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has witnessed several dramatic moments. The match obtained an outcome after conducting two Super Overs. In the end, India emerged as the winners, securing a 10-run win in the second Super Over.

Many criticised Rohit Sharma and the umpires after the India captain batted in the second Super Over after being retired out in the first one. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra, who was part of the commentary panel, also came up with this take on the aforementioned case, stating that the opening batter should not be allowed to bat. The 46-year-old stated that it was an incorrect call while acknowledging the statement by the match official saying he had confirmed with the Afghanistan captain and coach whether they had any objection.

Aakash Chopra said “Rohit Sharma was retired out. Retired hurt means there should be an external injury on the field of play and there the umpires allow you to bat again. Retired out means your innings is over, you cannot come back again. So as soon as he went out, I said on commentary that he cannot come to bat. It’s done because he had lost his wicket. Rinku Singh and Rohit Sharma came back and I thought it was wrong. Rohit Sharma shouldn’t have been allowed to bat according to the rules.
