Shreyas Iyer faking injury upcoming to miss Ranji Trophy quarter-final clash, despite NCA declaring him fit.
Star Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer has recently garnered attention after withdrawing from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy quarter-final match against Baroda due to reported back spasms. However, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) has clarified that Iyer is fully fit and not dealing with any new injuries.
Following his omission from the Indian team after the first two Test matches against England, where he failed to make an impact, Iyer was replaced by Sarfaraz Khan. It was anticipated that Iyer would use the Ranji Trophy platform to stake a claim for a national team comeback. Surprisingly, he withdrew from the match, citing health reasons. However, in communication with the selectors, Nitin Patel, Head of Sports Science and Sports Medicine at the NCA, affirmed that no new injuries were reported post Iyer’s departure from the national team.
As of now, Iyer has not responded to Patel’s communication to the BCCI. Should he continue to abstain from participating in the Ranji Trophy game, it could potentially impact his BCCI contract.
