Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan BCCI’s central contracts to be terminated for missing Ranji Trophy matches.
India cricketers Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are facing potential repercussions regarding their BCCI central contracts due to their absence from Ranji Trophy matches. Iyer, who holds a Grade B central contract since March 2023 with an annual earning of INR 3 Crore, and Kishan, placed in Grade C with an annual earning of INR 1 Crore, are reportedly at risk of losing their contracts owing to their reluctance to participate in domestic cricket.
Kishan has been on leave for personal reasons since departing the team during the South Africa tour due to mental fatigue. Conversely, Iyer was recently omitted from the Test team for the final three Tests of the ongoing five-match series, with the BCCI not specifying the grounds for his exclusion.
Despite their absence from Ranji Trophy matches, Kishan has been seen practicing with his Mumbai Indians’ captain, Hardik Pandya, in Baroda and did not represent Jharkhand in the 2024 tournament. Similarly, Iyer did not partake in Mumbai’s last league game against Assam and was absent from the quarter-final match against Baroda at the MCA Cricket Ground in Mumbai, citing back spasms as the reason for his unavailability. However, Nitin Patel, the Head of Sports Science and Medicine at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, disclosed in an email to the BCCI and national selectors that Iyer was deemed fit to play, contradicting Iyer’s claim of injury.
